Market Overview#
Australia's stock market ended lower on Tuesday, with the S&P/ASX 200 index declining by 0.64%. This drop was influenced by losses in several sectors, particularly Gold, Consumer Discretionary, and Utilities.
Top Performers#
Despite the overall decline, some stocks managed to gain. Liontown Resources Ltd saw a rise of 4.39%, closing at 2.38. Whitehaven Coal Ltd increased by 4.03%, ending at 8.01, while Reliance Worldwide Corporation Ltd was up 3.95%, finishing at 3.16.
Notable Declines#
On the other hand, several companies faced significant losses. Domino’s Pizza Enterprises Ltd dropped 10.68%, closing at 15.86. Graincorp Ltd fell by 5.12% to 6.12, and Austal Ltd decreased by 4.89%, ending at 4.28. Overall, declining stocks outnumbered those that rose, with 741 stocks falling compared to 434 that gained, and 360 remaining unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
Volatility and Commodities#
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which indicates market volatility, decreased by 0.50% to 13.11. In commodities, Gold Futures for June delivery fell by 1.02% to $4,645.75 per troy ounce. Crude oil prices, however, saw an increase, with June delivery rising by 1.45% to $97.77 per barrel, and July Brent oil up 1.36% to $103.07 per barrel. The Australian dollar remained stable against the US dollar, while it fell slightly against the Japanese yen.
