Apple Expands Production in India#

Apple Inc. has significantly increased its iPhone production in India, marking a strategic move to reduce its dependence on China. This shift comes amid ongoing trade tensions and potential tariff risks that have affected shipments from China.

Production Growth#

According to a recent report, Apple assembled around 55 million iPhones in India in 2025. This figure represents a substantial increase of approximately 53% from the previous year, when about 36 million units were produced. This growth means that India now accounts for about 25% of Apple’s total global iPhone production, which ranges between 220 million and 230 million devices annually.

Strategic Shift#

This increase in production is part of Apple’s broader strategy to establish India as a key manufacturing hub. By diversifying its production locations, Apple aims to mitigate risks associated with relying heavily on China, where trade disputes have posed challenges.

Support from Indian Government#

The expansion of Apple’s production in India has been bolstered by production-linked incentives introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These incentives are designed to enhance domestic manufacturing and boost exports, making India an attractive option for global companies like Apple.
