Incident Overview#
Air Canada has confirmed that two pilots tragically lost their lives in an accident involving an Air Canada Express aircraft at New York's LaGuardia Airport. The incident occurred on Sunday night around 11:30 p.m. during the landing of Flight AC8646, which was arriving from Montreal.
Flight Details#
The aircraft involved was a Mitsubishi CRJ900, operated by Jazz Aviation LP, a carrier for Air Canada Express. On board were 72 passengers and four crew members. Unfortunately, the Captain and First Officer both died in the accident.
Response and Support#
Michael Rousseau, the President and CEO of Air Canada, expressed heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the deceased pilots. He emphasized the airline's commitment to supporting passengers and crew members affected by the incident. Rousseau also thanked the first responders and medical teams for their assistance during this difficult time.
Ongoing Investigation#
Of the 76 individuals on the flight, 39 were taken to local hospitals with various injuries, while 35 passengers did not require immediate medical attention. Six individuals remain hospitalized. Air Canada and Jazz Aviation are currently cooperating with both the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and the National Transportation Safety Board in the United States to investigate the cause of the accident. The airline has stated that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
